India’s electric car market is finally coming into its own. With new models launching every few months, better charging infrastructure, and growing interest from buyers, it’s clear that EVs are no longer just a niche product. The numbers from June 2025 prove this in a big way.
Electric Car Sales in India – August 2025
According to the latest data, 13,178 electric cars were sold across India in June alone. That’s a massive 80% jump compared to June last year and a solid 7% rise from May 2025. Clearly, more Indian car buyers are making the switch to electric.
Tata Motors: Still on Top in Electric Car
When it comes to electric vehicles, Tata Motors continues to set the pace. Backed by a strong lineup including the Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV, and the recently launched Curvv EV, Tata sold 4,708 units in June 2025. That’s slightly better than last year and about 8% more than May 2025. Tata’s EV portfolio has something for everyone, and that’s clearly working in their favour.

MG Motor: Big Jump Thanks to Windsor EV Pro – New Era Of Electric Car
MG has had a great month too. Their new MG Windsor EV Pro is making waves and helped push their June sales to 3,972 units. That’s a whopping 168% increase compared to the same month last year. Even when compared to May 2025, MG managed to grow by around 5.5%. MG seems to be hitting the right notes with buyers who want something modern and tech-packed.

Mahindra’s Electrifying Growth – A huge change in the concept of Electric Car
Mahindra surprised everyone with some incredible numbers. Thanks to new launches like the BE 6 and XEV 9e, Mahindra’s EV sales jumped to 3,029 units in June. That’s over five times more than what they sold last June. They also posted a healthy 15% growth over May. Mahindra is finally bringing its EV game to the mainstream—and it’s working.
Hyundai: Strong Year-on-Year, Slight Dip Month-on-Month
Hyundai sold 512 EVs in June, which is a huge jump from the 63 units it sold in the same month last year. But compared to May 2025, the numbers dropped slightly. Still, with popular models like the Ioniq 5 and Kona EV, Hyundai is expected to bounce back soon.
Premium Brands Also in the Race of Electric Car Sale in August 2025
- BYD sold 476 units, nearly double what they sold last year.
- BMW posted strong numbers too, with 214 units sold—a big leap compared to the same time last year.
- Mercedes-Benz moved 94 electric cars, almost twice as many as June 2024.
- Kia India also saw a decent uptick, selling 41 units, showing growing interest in their EV options.
Not Everyone Had a Great Month
Citroen had a tough June, selling just 80 units, which is a big drop from the 238 they sold last year. Volvo too seems to be losing steam, with only 22 units sold. Other smaller brands added 30 units, which was lower than last year, but better than the previous month.
The Road Ahead
Looking at the current pace, India’s electric car market is heading toward an exciting future. With more affordable models launching, range anxiety reducing, and better infrastructure coming up, we might just see EVs become mainstream sooner than expected.
